Kaya's people tell a story about unusual silver stallions of long ago that had powerful medicine -- a strong connection to the spirit world. Now Kaya's blind sister, Speaking Rain, has dreamed of a stallion like none she's ever met. Then the two girls come upon a silver stallion in the woods. Could he be a Ghost Wind Stallion of legend?
Includes an essay about the importance of horses in Nez Perce culture.

First, Emma Carlson Berne thought she was going to be a college professor, so she went to graduate school at Miami University in Ohio. After that, she taught horseback riding in Boston and Charleston, South Carolina. Then Emma found out how much she enjoys writing for children and young adults. Since that time, Emma has authored over two dozen books and often writes about historical figures such as Sacagawea, Helen Keller, Christopher Columbus, and the artist Frida Kahlo. Emma lives in a hundred-year-old house in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her two little boys and her husband. She loves to walk in the woods and pick berries, just like Kaya.
