University professor and recovering nightclub owner Nick Kardaras presents a mind blowing, reality rocking, and life changing approach to Greek philosophy. The message of the ancient Greeks is neither irrelevant nor obscure. The truth is that they possessed the prescription for sane, happy and balanced living.
After sampling both the fast-track lifestyle of the Manhattan A-list and the more effete pleasures of academia, Kardaras embarked on an amazing and transformative journey that brought him to the discovery of the practical and life-affirming teachings of Plato and Pythagoras. Their teachings led him to embrace the Pythagorean way of life: a healthy mind, body, and spirit nurtured by vigorous physical exercise, a rigorous diet, daily meditation, and contemplation.
Kardaras both introduces readers to the ancient teachings and guides them through a wide array of meditative practices that will lead them into an understanding of the nature of authentic character, an exploration of the ethical choices that face each of us, and the composition of a life that is truly well lived. With clarity and enthusiasm, he brings the past fully and meaningfully into the present and demonstrates how each of us possesses the potential for extraordinary living.
This is the prescription for a life unburdened by constant existential anxiety; a prescription for happiness and balance, a strong mind and a healthy body, and the opportunity to catch a glimpse of that trippy realm called Ultimate Reality.

Nick Kardaras was introduced to heroin during his days as the owner of the wildly popular, A-list New York nightclub (Big City, frequented by JFK, Jr., Tom Cruise, Brooke Shields, etc.) and nearly died of an overdose on the street outside his club. Clean for many years, he is in private practice as a psychotherapist and teaches as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University and as an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA.
